  1. Hey Zeroglotte, Ma Belle*. I'm back from my solitary trip and will check out everything that has been posted in the mean time. (P.S. I've read a book of João Guimarães Rosa in the mean time. He kicks ass.)

*Think nothing of it, I'm a complete fou.

  2. Twice 'in the mean time'... if that doesn't proves my idiocy, than nothing will.

  3. Hey Martijn, good that oriole country made you talkative again. You read Guimarães Rosa in dutch? he creates so many words rooted in so many different languages, it's difficult to imagine translations. But now i remember he himself used to say his german translator wrote better then him, so i'm just inventing problems.

  4. Rosa's language is the Mount Everest for translators I imagine. In Dutch he is translated by August Willemsen who is a fantastic stylist himself (he also published a book of his own). I got on Rosa's trail via this Willemsen because he is also the man that has translated a lot of Fernando Pessoa's work... and I'm a BIG Pessoa fan. Willemsen also praised the German translator, and admitted that Rosa in translation could only be a paralel universe, or something like that. But I was much impressed.

  5. Oh, and he (A.W.) has very beautifully (as far as I can tell) translated the poems of Carlos Drummond de Andrade, who I also very véry much like.
