today and in all eternity

  this is the soyuz capsule hitting kazakhstan after 6 months up there. Three lucky guys in it, unharmed. I had this fear as a child, that when space travel would finally become a normal thing, I'd be too old to board the bus. Seems to have been right.
and this is josef albers' picture of the 1761 Transit of Venus. If you're interested you can find the list of the next nine transits, (the ninth due to happen the 10th of June of 2498) and the best places to go to observe them. Astronomers are a confident bunch.
Observe and contemplate are two very different occupations.
